Hello everyone,
I know that we've taken a brief stint of silence but you know with finals and people graduating its been kind of hectic. So as a welcome back I decided to do a post about my latest pet project. Most people that know me know I'm really extra with making things and I'm in love with DIY projects of any and all kinds. My StumbleUpon is filled with plenty of sites from jewelry to food, one of my favorites is Studs&Pearls (that's a story for another post).
A Smash Book is new take on the traditional scrapbook. Instead of just pictures and stickers, the Smash Books allows you to make your own pages to record your memories, goals and all the fun things that happen in your life. A lot of people use them to document a set time or a set goal. One of the women at this scrapbook convention in Tennessee, made her own Smash Book called 50 Things to Do Before I'm 51. Since this is my last year in college, I've decided to make one from this summer to my graduation date.
K&Company has their own line of Smash Books that you can buy already done but I decided that I wanted to create my own from start to finish. For those who want to just buy one and fill in the pages yourself, you can go to the company website (K&Company), Amazon, or any craft store (I personally like Hobby Lobby). However being the individual person that I find myself to be, I decided to create my own. Once again Google and YouTube served me well in that regard and I was able to find loads of tutorials and instructions for making my own Smash Book from start to finish. I went to Hobby Lobby in town to get some supplies and here are a few pictures of my craft haul. Please excuse the quality, I had to use my phone because my camera is throwing a hissy fit:
The Official Smash Stick (Part Pen/Glue Stick) |
Designer Book Board to serve as the cover |
Black Binding Rings |
Extra glitz to decorate the cover |
Some more official Smash Book Gear |
Exacto Knife |
and a plethora of paper to make the inner pages |
My finished cover |
The instructions that I'm using to make my Smash Book come from another DIY Blogger , Oh Snap Lizzie. She gives step by step instructions along with pictures and alternatives if you don't have some of the fancier arts&crafts tools. I'm really looking forward to finishing this project and providing updates along with the process.
Happy Crafting!
