DIY Tote Bags

Ever had an old Tshirt that you can't wear anymore but you love it too much to throw away? Well this DIY is a great way to find use for that treasured Tshirt while doing your part to save the environment! Instead of using plastic bags at the grocery store, a couple recycled tote bags from old Tshirts go a long way in reducing your Carbon footprint. Of course, in addition to this, your tote can be used for anything you want. As a college student myself, they're quite useful for carrying my textbooks. So if you have a Tshirt and about half an hour to spare (much less if you can sew well) then let's get started!

What you need:
A needle and some thread
A pencil
Scissors
A Tshirt

Steps:

1. Turn your Tshirt inside out and lay it down on a flat surface. Draw a line around the neck and sleeves of the Tshirt.

2. Use your scissors to cut along these lines. Cutting around the sleeves determines the length of the handles and cutting around the neck determines the size of the opening to your tote. The deeper you cut, the longer your handles and the bigger the entrance to your tote.

3. Take your needle and thread and sew across the bottom of your Tshirt. If you're like me and sewing isn't really your strong point, this may take a while. Be sure to double up on your stitches to ensure a strong base for your bag. If you have access to a sewing machine that will work much better.

4. Turn your Tshirt back on to the right side.

That's it! Enjoy your new tote bag!
