Pictures on Canvas: A Modge Podge Project

Ok so first up let me apologize for the lack of pictures. In my excitement while doing this project I forgot to take pictures of every step. I promise however, to be as clear and descriptive as possible in my instructions! It's super easy to do this project and takes about 15 - 20 minutes to complete.

Things you will need:
Canvas
Paint brush (I prefer the sponge kind because I didn't want brush stroke marks)
Mod Podge (I used the matte finish. I tried the glossy look but didn't like it. Either works)
Picture ( Ensure that it's photo paper quality. Regular paper smudges when mod podge is applied)
Scissors
Paint (optional)
Paper towel (optional)

1. Firstly, I painted the sides of my canvas to have a border around the picture. This is completely optional. Some people like the plain white canvas look and others use fancy paper as a border. Whichever your fancy, be sure to do this step first.

2. Next coat the canvas with a layer of mod podge and allow it to dry.

3. Trim the sides of the picture so that it is exactly the size of the canvas.

4. Apply a layer of mod podge to the back of the picture and place it on the canvas. Smooth out the picture to ensure there are no air bubbles present.

5. Apply a layer of mod podge to the surface of the photograph and the sides of the canvas. Don't worry that it looks white, it dries clear.

6. Using the paper towel, dab the surface of the picture while the mod podge is still wet. This is another optional step. I wanted the surface of the picture to look textured like the surface of the canvas. Paper towels have a pattern on them that imprints on the picture and gives it a very nice finish. Be careful not to let the paper leave pieces on the picture. If you would like a smooth finish simply apply the mod podge and let dry.

7. I repeated steps 5 and 6 about 3 times. No reason really. I just really wanted the texture to stand out.

That's it! You now have a picture on canvas!

It's a creative and novel way to revamp your wall of photographs without using the traditional frames idea. I hope you were able to follow without the pictures! Happy mod podging!!
