Smoothies! (The RED Edition)

So lately I've been on a bit of a smoothie craze. I found a couple recipes online, and have been making some of my own. So I'm home in Trinidad for a couple of weeks and decided to make this red smoothie  for my mom. It's one of my favorites so I thought I'd share it with you. Now you can find some variations of this online, but I added a few things to give it my own twist.

This is a cleansing and energizing smoothie. It has beetroots, spinach, fruits, and some spices to give it an extra kick. Now even if you don't like beetroots (not many people do for some crazy reason!) don't skip this smoothie just yet. You may just end up loving it!

Here's what you'll need:

handful of fresh spinach
1/4 cup of beetroot
2 medium bananas
2 apples
1 portugal (a mandarin can work for my non-Trinidadian folks)
1cm piece of ginger
juice from 1 small lime
1/2 tbsp chai seeds
1/2 tbsp flax seeds
1 tsp cinnamon
2 cups water

Blend everything up until you get a smooth consistency. Now keep in mind that beetroots, bananas and spinach tend to have a very overpowering taste, so if you are adjusting your serving sizes you don't want to add too much of those. This recipe gives 3-4 servings. Also watch out for seeds, they tend to give a bitter taste when blended in to drinks (learned this from experience! yikes!). So deseed those apples and portugals.

And of course, mom loved it!
