Today's post is a recipe for fried green tomatoes. Earlier in the week my mom and I went to our fresh garden (another post) and collected some tomatoes that grew in. Although they were still green we took them to let them let them mature at the house.
While talking about that Mom talked about how much my aunt loves fried green tomatoes so I felt like I should give it a try.
Ingredients:
Green tomatoes
Salt and pepper
1 1/2 cups plus 1TBS Flour
1 1/2 cups Butter milk (or regular milk mixed with lemon juice)
2 eggs
Directions:
1. Mix together the eggs and the buttermilk in a bowl
I didn't have buttermilk so I had to mix regular milk with lemon juice. The ratio is 1 tbs of lemon juice to 1 cup of milk
2. Whisk in 1 Tbs of flour and the salt and pepper
3. Soak the tomatoes in the liquid
4. Heat some oil in a heavy skillet
6. Put the tomatoes in the flour mix and make sure it's covered. Shake off the excess then put the tomatoes in the pan
7. Turn in the oil and fry until golden
brown
8. Drain on the paper towel and add salt to taste
Happy eating!
