TTD: Alfred B. Maclay Gardens

This past weekend I decided to spend the day outside while I worked on an art piece for my new apartment. I chose the Alfred B. Maclay Gardens on Thomasville Road Tallahassee. This beautiful state park is located about 10 minutes from downtown Tallahassee. This park is actually made up of three sections; a recreation area for swimming, kayaking etc., the gardens with the Maclay house, and hiking and cycling trails. Just $4 gives you access to the entire facility for the day. If you have an hour or two to spare I definitely recommend checking here out.

So armed with my sketch pad and a strong desire to exchange the concrete for some trees and a view of the lake, I headed out for some much needed R&R.

This paved path runs through the gardens and takes you directly to the Maclay House.

Beautiful reflection pool with a direct path to the lake.

Yes there is a secret garden!

The path ends at the Maclay House

After touring the gardens I found the perfect spot to set up

Unfortunately for me it started to rain so I didn't get to finish my piece. I did however get to spend a couple hours away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, and that was well worth getting caught in the rain!

On the way out of the gardens.
