DIY: Wall of Vanity

While the roommate is away….

Just kidding! But seeing as I have all this free time before the semester starts, I figured that I need to find something to entertain myself (especially when the internet goes out). Since the beginning of this moving process and the subsequent discovery of Pinterest, I’ve wanted to do something different in my room that was fashion forward but also creative and functional. And thus was born the Wall of Vanity!!

This wall, well actually two but I’ll get into that in a minute, was born from a few sources which I will list at the end of the post. The wall contains a earring holder, bracelet and necklace racks, along with a magnetic makeup board to go in the bathroom. This project has been in the works for a couple of weeks with the planning and price checking at different stores but I hadn’t found an impulse to start it. So today when I realized that there was no internet due to the storm, I decided to take on the final stages.

Part I of the Wall of Vanity will be the DIY Tutorial of the Earring Frame. First you need a frame, some kind of wire/screen, and some paint if you want to change the color of anything. I found my frame at Goodwill and I loved the golden color so I didn’t use any spray paint on either piece. I found the screen at Home Depot after like an hour of searching. This same worker saw me like 4-5 times looking lost as all get out but I managed to get it together. The metal screen itself was kind of expensive because they don’t cut metal at Home Depot so you have to buy the whole sheet. Since its better to be safe than sorry, I went ahead and bought it and I’ll just find some other use for the excess.
I took out the picture, glass, and cardboard backing of the frame to leave it open. I kept the cardboard to use as a measure for the size of the screen.

This screen is actually pretty light and can be cut by regular scissors with very little effort

Once that was done, I put the screen in the frame and secured it with the staples that used to keep the picture in place. Here is the finished product without earrings attached.

With earrings!! See how much room I still have while displaying everything

See simple right? The other parts not as simple lol……
Until next time
