Hey guys this is just a very quick post today. Broke college students everywhere stop what you're doing! If your looking for affordable groceries, forget Walmart, Target, Sam's etc and head to your local farmer's market.
For those people who don't already know, the farmer's market is just a gathering of local farmers/sellers that bring all their wares to one place and thus almost everything is soo much cheaper than buying at a large chain store. It's a great experience overall but there are some cons like availability and selection. Most markets( especially if they are only gatherings of people and not an actual building like Findley) are only open certain days and time per week. The one I went to this morning is only open Saturday from 8am to 6pm. Also because these are local farmers, the produce for sale will depend on the season and crop more than a big chain. But if you're cool with those things then totally check it out. Farmer's markets spring up anywhere so if you don't know where to go just do what I did and Google search 'Open Air market' or 'farmer's market' in your town. There are a couple here in Tally but I went to the one in Timberlane Market Square.
The best part of the market is without a doubt the prices. Picture this...you go to a store and there is a sign that says '$2.00 Tomatoes'... well usually this means that each tomato is $2.00 plus tax. Now at the Farmer's market, there is a small basket of at least 4-5 tomatoes for the same price! Amazing!
So for under $20 I bought:

So for under $20 I bought:
- 5 Yellow Squash
- 2 Green Peppers
- 6 Sweet Potatoes
- A bag of collard greens
- 4 Tomatoes
- 5 Ears of Corn (my favorite buy)
There was also a stands for herbs and flowers in various places. For those super amazing chefs, try getting a thyme plant for the house to season your meals. Another benefit was meeting the different people that work there. I bought the collard greens from a woman whose family has been at this market for 26 years!
I'd also like to recommend checking out the blog Poor Girl Eats Well. Its pretty much how it sound and it has some great recipes that a filing and nutritious without breaking the bank. I will probably also be doing a quick and simple food post about how I cook my corn in the microwave. That's about it.
