Fake It Until You Become It

Hey y'all,

So I just had a great day today, like really awesome and I just wanted to share what gave me my new lease on life.

Firstly I need to give a big thank you to OMI for putting me up on game. There is a website/app called TED Talks. It's a very interesting place that features tons of videos and presentations from all over all the world and about a bevy of different subjects. From tissue engineering to the modeling industry, its all about people expressing themselves and their ideas to an interested audience. Its pretty much like YouTube except there's no ratchet videos of someone fighting or clapping their behinds. Now saying that I've been perusing the site and Omi recommended this video about posture and body language. Now a lot of people know about body language and how it affects how others see you. However what made this particular video so unique is that the speaker, Amy Cuddy, talks about how your body language sends a message to yourself.

Now I'm not going to go into everything she says (you can watch the video for that) but basically the speaker talks about how our posture can affect our attitude, stress levels and confidence. For the experiment, she had some people assume two different types of poses: the High Power and Low Power. While watching this I realized that I do at least three of the Low Power poses on a daily basis; especially during my engineering classes, where I sometimes feel horrible even if I am having a previously good day.

So today I tried changing my stance; I kept my High Power poses all day long and just the action of noticing when I would sink into Low Power and fixing it really made me feel better. It seems like all the good of the day was flowing towards me. I felt confident in class, got a great parking space because I took a chance, got money, worked out, interacted with my engineering crush, and just generally felt glad about everything. You known one of those days that's good but you can't tell why. But I knew today it was definitely my body influencing my mind.

So I'm doing my part to share this knowledge so others can benefit that way I did. So no matter what you do today or tomorrow or sometime this week check out this video below and remember to Fake It Until You BECOME IT!
